(5a)
Price elasticity of supply (PES or Es) is a measure used in
economics to show the responsiveness, or elasticity, of the
quantity supplied of a good or service to a change in its price.
(5b)
(i)In Joint supply two or more commodities are produced and
supplied from one or more sources, while in competitive
supply two or more commodities are supplied to serve as
substitute.
(ii)In joint supply and increase in the production and supply
of one commodities will bring about an increase in the
production and supply of the commodity, whereas in
competitive supply a commodity is supplied for d satisfaction
of a particular want
(5c)
(i)Cost of production: the cost of production normally leads
to elasticity
(ii)Nature of commodity: perishable goods are elastic in
supply due to their nature
(iii)Cost of storage: producers will supply all their
commodities to the market if the cost of storage is high
thereby leading to elasticity
(iv)Market forces: this determines whether supply will
increase or not
====================================
(8a)
Gross Domestic product measures the value of total
production attributes to all factors of production that are
located in the territory of a given country.
(8b)
Gross national product:when necessary adjustment for the
the surplus of a nation on its current account with the rest of
the world has been made, the resulting figure is called the
gross national product(GNP)
(8c)
cost of living is the aggregate amount of money which a
person spends to provide himself the need, usually over a
period of one year
(8d)per capital income is obtained by dividing the total
national income by the total population
(8e)standard of living: when per capita income is calculated,
what you get determines whether the standard of living is
high or low. the higher the quotient, the higher the standard
of living, all things being equal.

One day while Moses was taking care of the sheep and goats
of his father-in-law Jethro, the priest of Midian, he led the
flock across the desert and came to Sinai, the holy mountain.
There the angel of the
LORD appeared to him as a flame coming from the middle of
a bush. Moses saw that the bush was on fire but that it was not
burning up. "This is strange," he thought. "Why isn't the
bush burning up? I will go closer and see."
When the LORD saw that Moses was coming closer, he called
to him from the middle of the bush and said, "Moses!
Moses!"
He answered, "Yes, here I am."
God said, "Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals,
because you are standing on holy ground. I am the God of
your ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob." So
Moses covered his face, because he was afraid to look at God.
Then the LORD said, "I have seen how cruelly my people are
being treated in Egypt; I have heard them cry out to be
rescued from their slave drivers. I know all about their
sufferings, and so I have come down to rescue them from the
Egyptians and to bring them out of Egypt to a spacious land,
one which is rich and fertile and in which the Canaanites, the
Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the
Jebusites now live. I have indeed heard the cry of my people,
and I see how the Egyptians are oppressing them. Now I am
sending you to the king of Egypt so that you can lead my
people out of his country."
But Moses said to God, "I am nobody. How can I go to the
king and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?"
God answered, "I will be with you, and when you bring the
people out of Egypt, you will worship me on this mountain.
That will be the proof that I have sent you."
But Moses replied, "When I go to the Israelites and say to
them, 'The God of your ancestors sent me to you,' they will
ask me, 'What is his name?' So what can I tell them?"
God said, "I am who I am. You must tell them: 'The one who
is called I AM has sent me to you.' Tell the Israelites that I,
the LORD, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham,
Isaac, and Jacob, have sent you to them. This is my name
forever; this is what all future generations are to call me. Go
and gather the leaders of Israel together and tell them that I,
the
LORD, the God of their ancestors, the God of Abraham, Isaac,
and Jacob, appeared to you. Tell them that I have come to
them and have seen what the Egyptians are doing to them. I
have decided that I will bring them out of Egypt, where they
are being treated cruelly, and will take them to a rich and
fertile land—the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the
Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
"My people will listen to what you say to them. Then you
must go with the leaders of Israel to the king of Egypt and say
to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has revealed
himself to us. Now allow us to travel three days into the
desert to offer sacrifices to the LORD, our God.' I know that
the king of Egypt will not let you go unless he is forced to do
so. But I will use my power and will punish Egypt by doing
terrifying things there. After that he will let you go.
"I will make the Egyptians respect you so that when my
people leave, they will not go empty-handed. Every Israelite
woman will go to her Egyptian neighbors and to any Egyptian
woman living in her house and will ask for clothing and for
gold and silver jewelry. The Israelites will put these things on
their sons and daughters and carry away the wealth of the
Egyptians."

the LORD said to Moses, Take you
Joshua
the son of Nun, a man in whom
is the spirit,
and lay your hand on him;…
Moses, after having
been the leader of his people for
forty years,
is at length to get his discharge.
Nothing has
yet been determined regarding a
successor. The
point is, on every account, too
important to be
left open till the present leader
has passed
away. A change of leadership,
always hazardous,
is especially hazardous when the
army is in the
field and the enemy is on the
watch. If the
Divine wisdom judged it
necessary that Eleazar
should be invested with the high
priesthood
before Aaron died, much more is
it necessary
that, before Moses lays down the
scepter, a
successor should be appointed
and placed in
command.

This story relates how Hosea has three children, a son
called Jezreel, a daughter Lo-Ruhamah and another son
Lo-Ammi. All the names are described in the text as
having symbolic meaning, reflecting the relationship
between God and Israel . Jezreel is named after the valley
of that name . Lo-Ruhamah is named to denote the ruined
condition of the kingdom of Israel and Lo-Ammi is named
in token of God's rejection of his people. Although the
latter two children are not specifically said to be Hosea's,
James Mays says that this is "hardly an implication" of
Gomer's adultery. In 3:1, however, it says that she is
"loved by another man and is an adulteress". Hosea
is told to buy her back, and he does so for 15 shekels and
a quantity of barley. Exodus 21:32 establishes the value of
a maidservant at 30 shekels so Gomer's value is
diminished. She is not mentioned again in the book.
Some analysts, following Felix Ernst Peiser, have
suggested that this marriage is really a figurative or
prophetic reference to a union between the " lost tribes of
Israel " with the people of Gomer, following the Assyrian
deportation.
The relationship between Hosea and Gomer has been
posited to be a parallel to the relationship between God
and Israel. Even though Gomer runs away from Hosea
and sleeps with another man, he loves her anyway and
forgives her. Likewise, even though the people of Israel
worshiped other gods, God continued to love them and
did not abandon his covenant with them.
According to Kirsten Abbott, feminist interpretation
regards the story of Hosea and his relations with his wife
Gomer as a metaphor for the conflict between a Covenant
Theology (Israel violating the covenant relationship with
YHWH) and a Creation Theology (YHWH will undo the
fertility of the earth in response to Israel following other
fertility gods).

Pride goes Before a Fall.
People are never fond of anyone who is proud, over
confident or over bearing. It is better to be humble than to
have a superiority complex Invariably pride not only
brings your downfall but also makes you look foolish. But
people who are proud realize this only when they face a
grave situation in life and the experience teaches them a
valuable lesson.
Once there was a beautiful antelope that lived in a forest.
He was very proud of his antlers and knew that it helped
him look majestic. The antelope would feel very proud
whenever other animals stopped by to have a look at him.
He always thought that he was a special creation and all
the other creatures were no match for him in looks.
But he was always discontented about his legs. He thought
his legs were too thin and wished he had better-looking
legs. His attitude was so haughty that the other animals did
not befriend him at all. No one really liked or respected
him although they did agree that he was a very good-
looking antelope.
One day as he was quenching his thirst in a lake the
antelope suddenly heard the sound of hunters nearby. He
had been too busy admiring his reflection in the water that
he had not heard the sound of the hunters earlier. Fear
gripped him and he ran as fast as he could. The hunters
were closing in on him but his legs were so powerful that he
was much faster than them.
As he ran through the trees his antlers got caught in the
branches of a tree and the antelope could not run further.
He struggled to free his antlers and could hear the hunters
getting closer. It was then that he realized that what he had
all along thought of being his best feature was actually
getting him into trouble. Whereas his legs which he had
always looked down upon was actually saving his life.
Luckily with a little struggle the antelope was able to free
its antlers from the branches and run to safety. The
antelope realized at that moment that its pride had almost
cost its life. All along, it had been very proud of its antlers
and was blind to the dangers that it might bring about. Now
it realized the value of being humble and was happy to be
alive. Thereafter the antelope always thought very high of
its legs.

(2) The morals and values of todays society have really
changed.
For an example;
The younger generation have little respect for elders, their
parents or authority figures which
leads to a higher
crime rate among our children.
This is the reason there is no respect for others belongings,
and
people take what they want instead of asking
for it.
The reason the morals and values are like they are in
todays society, is because the parents do not take the
time to teach their children, to show respect to their elders
or to show respect
for others.
They are not taught the value of family, so
instead the children
are spoiled with material belongings which puts the parents
in a position of having to by them what they want
regardless of the
cost this instills lack of morals and greed in ourchildren.
The rate of teen pregnancy is a lot higher and the number
of women being pregnant without being married is higher
than it was in years past. The lack of morals has led to the
violence and
the drug use by society today. I believe that this stems from
the type of
programing that our
youth are watching on television today and they are using
the characters on television , and musicians as role models
rather than their parents.
Another reason for the lack of morals and values is both
parents have to work, due to the shape of our economy
which leaves the children without proper guidance and
allowing
them to learn from bad examples.
There are a lot of young parents that are into partying and
so they do not supervise their children and they run lose
getting into trouble. We need to instill better morals in our
children and teach our youth the family values to do this we
need to start spending quality time with our children, and
monitor what our children are watching on television. We
should spend more family time with our children either
playing games, planting a garden, or helping with
their school work. We could teach children better morals
and values by being a good role model for.

No. 4)
The novel Lonely Days has its backdrop in
pastoral setting. It reflects the predicament of
widows in African society ( Nigeria to be
specific).
The novel is a mirror of the quandary/
dilemma of a Nigeria widow battling with either
to uphold the status quo of levirate ( a system of
remarrying within family, or the practice by
which a man may be required to marry his
brother's widow). In Nigeria's rustic society, even
to some upholders of this tradition of levirate in
urban society in Yorubaland, it is culturally
acceptable for a widow after sometimes of
mourning her deceased husband to 'pick a
cap' ( remarrying to anew man) in the
community.
The story is narrated through the plight of the
protagonist, Yaremi, along with other characters
who develop the plot structure of the novel.
Lonely Days is a novel used by Bayo Adebowale
to question the notion of cultural imposition of
levirate. The denial of the protagonist, Yaremi to
pick a cap, by invariably living a solitary life adds
credence to this cultural practice (levirate) as
obsolete (old fashioned).
NO.5
Bigger Thomas as America's Native Son
In the novel the Native Son, the author Richard
Wright explores racism and oppression in
American society. Wright skillfully merges his
narrative voice into Bigger Thomas so that the
reader can also feel how the pressure and
racism affects the feelings, thoughts, self-image,
and life of a Negro person. Bigger is a tragic
product of American imperialism and exploitation
in a modern world. Bigger embodies one of
humankind's greatest tragedies of how mass
oppression permeates all aspects of the lives of
the oppressed and the oppressor, creating a
world of misunderstanding, ignorance, and
suffering.
The novel is loaded with a plethora of imageries
of a hostile white world . Wright shows how white
racism affects the behavior, feelings, and
thoughts of Bigger.
"Everytime I think about it I feel like somebody's
poking a red-hot iron down my throat…We live
here and they live there. We black and they
white. They got things and we ain't. They do
things and we can't…I feel like I'm on the
outside the world peeping in through a knot-hole
in the fence…" (20).
Bigger's sense of constriction and of
confinement is very palpable to the reader.
Wright also uses a more articulate voice to
accurately describe the oppressive conditions of
a Negro person. An anonymous black cellmate, a
university student cries out,
"You make us live in such crowded conditions…
that one out of every ten of us is insane…you
dump all stale foods into the Black Belt and sell
them for more than you can get anywhere else…
You tax us, but you wont build hospitals…the
schools are so crowded that they breed
perverts…you hire us last and fire us
first…" (318)
Bigger's sense of constriction by the white world
is so strong that he has no doubt that
"something awful's going to happen to
me…" (21).
Nowhere in this novel can the reader see a
greater example of Bigger's fear and sense of
constriction than in the accidental death of Mary
Dalton. The all-encompassing fear that the white
world has bred in Bigger takes over when he is in
Mary's room and in danger of being discovered
by Mrs. Dalton. This internalized social
oppression literally forces his hands to hold the
pillow over Mary's face, suffocating her. Bigger
believes that a white person would assume that
he was in the room to rape the white girl.
Bigger's violent reaction to fear is inevitable.
When a person finds all outlets of expression and
development either closed or severely
constrained, like Bigger's, violence is often the
instinctive reaction to oppression.
