Seeks Dibu Ojerinde's resignation as registrarJAMB explains conflicting results

The Association of Tutorial School Operators (ATSO) has accused the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of using the wrong grading software to mark the 2016/2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The group claimed that the error was responsible for the poor and conflicting results that were released by the board for the examination written between February 27 and March 17 in over 500 centres nationwide.

At a press briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, President of the group, Mr Shodunke Oludotun, alleged that the board erroneously used the software from last year to grade this year's examination.

He called for the release of the right results, as well as the resignation of the JAMB Registrar, Prof 'Dibu Ojerinde.

Oludotun said: "We have our evidence to show that virtually all the candidates we have collected results of 2015/2016 and not of 2016/2017.

"This year, Prof Dibu Ojerinde advertised 2016/2017 UTME – we all saw it.  During his press conference, he also mentioned 2016/2017.  During the exam, the students on their monitor, it displayed 2016/2017. Why is it that the result that was sent to the students showed 2015/2016?

"From our findings from insiders in JAMB, we realized that the software of 2015/2016 interfered with the 2016/2017, which led to the massive failure of the students.  If you can see the trend of results from (February) 27 to 29, the students failed; (March) 7-15, the students failed massively.

"But we noticed that the 27-29 were compensated with 40 marks still under the interference of software.  We can see that the 2015/2016 software was used to mark, that was why the students were receiving 2015/2016 results.  So where is 2016/2017 result?  That is what we are asking Prof Dibu Ojerinde…We are saying that Prof Dibu Ojerinde should step aside."

Though the House of Representatives has told JAMB to revert to the Paper Pencil Test (PPT) mode of the examination since the conduct of the Computer Based Test (CBT) was fraught with irregularities, Oludotun said the group was in support of the CBT because it is better.

"This Association of Tutorial School Operators, we are not against CBT.  CBT has really helped to bring more students to tutorial centres.  It makes them to be serious; and we have taught them.  But for CBT, the whole JAMB exam would have been messed up.  Because before CBT, it will only take you N2,000 for Cyber café to send the answers to you.  So I want to say that we appreciate the professor for introducing the CBT; and we are in support of CBT," he said.

However, he called for Ojerinde to step aside so someone else would build on the foundation he has laid to conduct hitch free examinations.

Responding to ATSO's allegations of software mishap, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Director of Media and Public Relations, said whether 2010 or 2019 software was used, what was important was the programming and not the marking guide.

"I am not a programmer, but I can confirm to you that JAMB does not joke with its template. What happened with the 40 marks issue is because the scripts were marked based on 250 marks because only English Language is 100 while the other three papers carry 50 marks, making a total of 250.

"So when the first results were released, they were calculated based on 250, and after normalization we felt it would not be ideal for us to cheat on the candidates. So we had to quickly send them their real scores," Benjamin stated.

He refuted claims that the House Committee on Education had ordered the board to revert to PPT.  Onl the contrary, he said the committee praised JAMB for introducing the CBT.

"The House never considered ordering the examinationn to revert to PPT; individual members only raised suggestions," he said.

A top official of the Federal Ministry of Education,
who pleaded anonymity has told the Daily Times in
an exclusive chat that the Minister of Education,
Mallam Adamu Adamu, had scolded the Joint
Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over the
shoddy conduct of this years' examination and the
myriad of controversies that have been trailing the
exercise.
The official also disclosed that the Minister is
preparing to make appropriate representations to
the Federal Executive Council to effect a leadership
change at the agency.
''Ojerinde's time appears to be running out fast at
JAMB, not with the controversies this time including
failure in the technology, late upload of released
results, wrong posting of scores with some
candidates being awarded greater than what they
actually scored while others had their scores
downgraded,'' the official said.
As if corroborating the above concerns, JAMB
Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, admitted that
challenges associated with Computer Based Test
were partly technical which in time will be addressed.
Addressing journalists on the conduct of the 2016
Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations, the
JAMB Registrar urged Nigerians to embrace the
Computer Based test as a benefit to the Nigerian
child and also work with the board to ensure its
success.
Prof. Ojerinde, who said it is becoming a war
conducting examinations in Nigeria following the
activities of owners of special centers, accused
proprietors of tutorial schools of being behind the
protests which was recently carried out by
candidates of the last UTME, who stormed the Lagos
State House of Assembly recently to protest alleged
maltreatment by JAMB in the examination.

My post on Sahara:

It's very obvious that jamb has failed to fulfilled it's purpose of creation . This year exam is characterized out of jamb incompetency and inefficiency. Can you imagine jamb sent 240 to a student as his scores but when he went to check online it became 160. What happen jamb?
Can you imagine a guy was logged out 5times before doing his exam?
Can you imagine jamb officials collecting 1000 from students before doing their exam claiming that they were not paid.
Can you imagine a candidates who has exam 6:30 am did her exam 9:00pm.
Can you imagine jamb sending 180 to a student that read his PQ, textbook, burn candle and did lesson.
They are lots of things to say but I will just cut my words.
We the concerned jambites hereby call for the intervention of the President and Ministry of Education to tell jamb to remark or cancel our exams.
Jamb stopping painting the intelligentsia as dullards.
Samuel,
National Convener of Protestants
Representing the interest of jambites nationwide.

The 2016 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination is expected to come to an end today March 15th, 2016.We learnt that majority of candidates that will be participating in the examination today are those that were re-scheduled due to some hitches in their centres. So many complaints and agitations have trailed the conduct of the examination. However, JAMB in a statement released earlier last week refuted most of the allegations and disclosed that the JAMB Boss, Prof Dibu Ojerinde, would address all issues raised after the examination thisweek.Let's just hope JAMB will find a way to save some of these candidates from their plight especially those that have not seen their results yet.For those who have seen their results, we advise them to consult our earlier post on thepossible 2016 UTME Cut off marks for institutionsand decide if they need to apply forJAMB change of course and/or institutionand also proceed to get theirJAMB Original Result Slips. Also in preparation for your post-UTME, you can subscribe for ourpost-UTME Past questions and 1 year sms alert. The sms alert will notify you when the post-UTME of your choice schools have been announced. We wish you all the best in your academic pursuit.J

THE JAMB SCORE UPGRADE EXPERIENCE
Are you planning of upgrading your Jamb score?
Wow! That's cool. Kindly read this post before calling
that Jamb upgrade guy you met on the internet.
We have been getting comments and messages from
people who indulge in upgrading Jamb results, we
usually deleted their messages because we thought
they were scammers until recently.
Recently, we got another comment from one of this
guys and decided to give them a trial. Continue
reading to see how the whole thing went....
We copied the guys number and called him
immediately and the following conversation ensued;
Upgrade guy: Hello
Lagschools: Good afternoon sir, I saw your number
online and I want to upgrade my Jamb score.
Upgrade guy: Okay, what did you score in Jamb
Lagschools; I scored 187 and I applied for Computer
Engineering. I heard that Unilag accepts only
candidates that scored 200 and above. Please sir,
how can you help me sir? I really want to enter
school this year.
Upgrade guy: I feel your pain. Don't worry, I will add
65 to your Jamb score, that is a total of 252. with that
you will get admission into Unilag. The price is just
5000 naira.
Lagschools: Thank you very much sir but 5000 naira
is too much, can you help me reduce it? it's me that
wants to pay the money, my parents would not
support me with it.
Upgrade guy: You mean 5000 naira is too much for
you to pay and get admission into Unilag
Lagschools: Sir please help my career. I only have
2000 naira with me.
Upgrade guy: Hmm, I really want to help students like
you. It pains me seeing students not getting
admission every year. Make it 2500 naira, pay the
money into my account and send me your Jamb
registration number and email address. I will send
my account number to you now.
Lagschools: Okay sir, thank you very much sir. I will
pay the money before 4pm today.
Upgrade guy: No problem. Also tell your friends that
want to upgrade their scores
Lagschools: No problem sir.... (Line drops)
So we sent this guy 2500, we also sent him a Jamb
registration number of one of our candidates and an
email address we just created.
We called him again to inform him that we have sent
the money, he replied that he is working on it and it
would take him almost 24 hours to finish it. We
waited till the next day.
The next day, we checked our email and found a pdf
file that he sent to us. We downloaded it and the
score was 252. We logged in to Jamb website to
check the score online, just as expected, the score
online was still 187.
This was the technique he used, he printed the result
online with the Jamb registration number we gave
him. He scanned the result with a scanner and used a
photo editor to manipulate the scores, imported it
into a word document and saved as pdf. If you are
not well versed with a computer, you may not
understand this Jargon.
In a nutshell, he sent us a fake result because when
we checked online the result did not change.
An good example of who did something like this is
the Kogi boy that claimed to score 399 in Jamb.
It was later confirmed that the result was fake and
the real score was 199.
Don't let scammers dupe you. Nobody and I repeat,
Nobody can upgrade your Jamb score for you. We
have already confirmed it. Don't fall a prey.
